Nail Design: Diwali for Roberta

Hello dear readers :)

A few days ago I was "invited" to a "birthday party" for sweet BobPlaysWithPolish. She asked people to make a Diwali design and she would share it on her blog the 23th of October.
I thought this was such a great idea that I immediately wanted to participate. Luckily Google is my friend, as I had never heard about the Diwali festival, you can reed about it here.

In short Diwali is a Hindu celebration. In English it is known as "the festival of lights".
The participants decorate their homes with patterns as Rangoli, they dress up, they light up lamps and candles and pray typically to Lakshmi (the goddess of wealth and prosperity). And they eat and exchange gifts.
Or at least that's what Wikipedia says :)

The outcome was this:

For my design I wanted a little bit of everything in lovely colors.
On my thump I have made a rangoli design I found on Google, and on my middle finger I have made a flame coming up from a pink Lotus as that is Lakshmi's favorite flower and the one she is always portrayed with.

Here is a picture of Lakshmi: (as you see she's got great style ("On wednesdays we wear pink!"))

Polishes Used:
OPI "OPI Scores A Goal" - As base for four fingers
China Glaze "Life Is Rosy", "Pink-ie Promise" & "Something Sweet" - as the lotus and rangoli pattern + details
OPI "Love.Angel.Music.Baby" - as gold details
OPI "My Favorite Ornament" - added as a little glitter to the gold flame
Deborah Lippman "Mermaid's Kiss" - accent nail on the ring finger

Here is more pictures:

I hope you enjoyed the design as I hope it makes a good Diwali design. For me it was a challenge as it was so new to me, but besides me making the design, I also gained a little knowledge :) and I hope some of you gained that too.
