Beginners Guide to Nails: filing nails

Hi girls

Today I wanted to talk about how I file my nails and achieve the shape I usually wear (Sabine Rasmussen asked me to do this ages ago, it's almost embarrassing and I have no explanation) - but then two nails broke.... (insert very nasty words). I will still attempt so by telling techniques and show how they normally look, but my outcome for today was very short.
Here is pictures of my accident :'(

Warning: Sorry if you find the pictures nasty, I have very dry hands.

What you need to understand first is that all nails are totally unique, so no one can make a totally correct guide for everyone, its just not possible, and you get the best shape if you understand your nails and how thew grow. That I can't tell you about, but I can only try to make you see your nails, by telling how I see mine and what I look for.

As you can see in the photo down below my nails are very rounded and when I lay them down on my table they point different ways. I didn't took a picture of it but my pointer finger goes down to the table and the rest point up in the air when they lay flat, this is my main reason for not having almond shaped nails, when I did it was more obvious which way they pointed, so in that way it doesn't suit me.

My stile now is clean lines and I get them by filing down the sides of my nails and take care that the lines look straight from every angle also I'm on the hunt for the slightest hint of spade shaped nails - there is nothing more ugly! You can see this demonstrated with the blue line in the picture.

The sides is actually more important for the than how straight the tips is. I round them a little in the corners so they are softer and more easy to work with daily without hurting anyone or myself.
Another thing I do is to file an angle flat on the tip, again the purpose is to make my nails durable for all possible things I could hurt with strong nails with sharp nails. I have very thick nails and of cause a person with very thin nails don't need to do this, but for me it is very important, cause I really hate my nails being to sharp. This is demonstrated by the red line in the picture

If you wanted rounded or almond shaped nails I can tell you of my own issue. I would typically start by getting the shape right, and when it was perfect i would after do and file under my nail so it was a straight line under it. But Then when i looked back at the nail from below the shape i made has changed and was not perfect anymore. The reason for this is that my nails are roundet but not like a perfect half circle, they round in their own way, and when you file under you take away some of the shape and expose the uneven things in the way the nail curve. That's why rounded nails actually take much more time to make perfect, cause it really depends on your nails. So this is a project you need to work on to get it perfect unles your nails doesn't have a curve, then this will be more easy for you.

Besides filing down the sides I also use my cuticle remover to remove what goes out of my lines. Sorry for the gross picture, but that's reality.

Today my nails got really short. This is not my ideal, this is sad! But the lines are there and by making the lines from the start it will be more easy to file my nails every time because I'm not left at zero but have something to work from.

This was my bare nails on the other hand before I filed them down - This is my ideal, both lenght and shape and that's how my nails normally end out.

I use a regular metallic file, cause that's what I control the best.

I hope this helped. The polish on my nails will get a short review Thursday.
